Bye Bye Bubble Blog!

Say goodbye to the Bubble. Who wants to listen to some jackass rant and rave about shit you don't care about? I certainly don't. Blogs are so 2005 so we're pulling the plug on this one.

Interactive community, sharp wpeople lashing out witty one-liners (KUH CHUUUUUUUUH!), hours of click-to-play videos, NSFW photos, news stories you love to hate to read, and a platform to reach the world. Welcome to Web 2.0!

You can preview the new, interactive community that will replace the old Bubble. Register. Post something. Have fun.

Did I mention you can get paid to gossip? Yes, it's true. You can read about that here. As an added incentive, the first 5 people to reach the 50 post threshold will enjoy 75% of their profits rather than 25%. Cool, eh? We figure it's a lot more fun to gossip when you get a check at the end of the month.

As always, email your feedback and flames to team at dailybubble dot com.

Bubble Vacation!

The Bubble is taking a one month hiatus. I'm working on another substantial web project with more community value. Looking through the archives, I noticed that I posted twice as much during my last hiatus as the few weeks previous. So who knows what will actually happen? But the plan is to let this place hang out.

If you find any great stories, you're still welcome to send them and I'll try to post them when I have time. Although, honestly, it's summer so you should be outside and not in front of a computer screen!

Rate Your Favorite Entries!

The Bubble has moved one step closer to a democracy. Now you can vote for your favorite entries! The highest rated entries will be displayed on the home page. In order for this to work, you must perform your civic duty and rate articles. Just click on the rating buttons below every entry. Freedom is on the march!

Bubble IQ Test Determines If You're Human

If you hadn't noticed, commenting on the Daily Bubble is a pain in the ass. I had required everyone to register with TypeKey before posting to stop spammers. This is annoying so I found a better way: use an IQ test to determine if you are human. If you pass the test, your comment is published. If you fail, your monitor will explode and the glass shards will likely maim you. The IQ test is composed of a single request: "Type 'cat' in this box".

If you successfully type the word cat, your comment will be posted immediately.

Free Online Games!

You can now play free online games (beta) at the Bubble! Test it out and let us know what you think. You can report any broken games or visual anomalies to team dailybubble com.

On an unrelated note, did you ever wonder why people write addresses that way? It prevents spammers from harvesting email addresses from your website. Those assholes are like skunks at a picnic.

The Daily Bubble Has Moved!

Welcome to the new Daily Bubble server. We're now hosted at DreamHost. We have a lot more bandwidth so the site won't be crashing every time the Piss Diver video is mentioned on the radio. You may notice a bunch of bugs. This is caused by the switch from a Windows to a Linux environment - a lot of changes need to be made. I'll hopefully get it back to normal during the next week.

The Daily Bubble Has Another Record Month!

monthly-visits-2006-jan.gif

The Daily Bubble blew up in Jaunary. We entered the month averaging 350 unique visitors a day and left averaging 900! 19,000 people viewed over 37,000 pages, downloading 15 gigs worth of content in the process.

Just six months ago I was thrilled when a hot Google keyword flooded the site with almost 200 visitors in one day. How the times change. Thanks for making the website a satisfying hobby. Keep those hilarious and thought-provoking emails coming!

Greetings From Florida!

I'm in Florida through Wednesday night, so posting will be non-existent. For some mindless distraction, check out the sites in the left column.

Welcome to Daily Bubble 3.0!

Last night we launched a brand new version of the Bubble! This is now the third iteration of our beloved site and, if I may say so myself, it's looking good. In the next few weeks, we'll be taking advantage of our new layout to add some fun features. What, you ask, you could possible make the Bubble better?! You must wait and see. Meanwhile, I must start brainstorming. Any ideas?

I also have a small request. Every browser displays webpages differently so I may not have noticed an error. If you come across anything that looks bad, strange, or annoying, let me know in the comments on this post. It could be text that doesn't look sized correctly, bad spacing, weird fonts, or anything else you can imagine. You'll know it when you see it. Muchos gracias!

Added Recommended Book Links

Coming up on the bubble: the best books to read (and the ones to avoid). Renee will decide if her biggest decisions are really made in a Blink. J-vass will explain how Last Night a DJ Saved My Life. And Kolajo will do what he does best: hang out in the trashy undercurrents of D.C. politics with a review of The Washingtonienne. Elizabeth is reading Love Monkey, which I can vouch for as one of the funniest books I've ever read, a laugh-out-loud look over the shoulder of a moody, socially-almost-making-it twenty-something New Yorker not unlike many of our readers. I'm in the midst of Haunted, a book that taught me to never ever masturbate suctioned to the bottom of a pool drain.

What are you reading? Share your reactions in the comments or email us a review. We'll post it and you'll enjoy eternal glory in heaven.

Major Website Outage Due to Moron

Unfortunately that moron is me. The Daily Bubble shares a server with some other websites and occasionally gets resource greedy. So I decided to throttle the bandwidth and make sure there's always enough left over for our other sites. Unfortunately, instead of limiting it to 100k/second, I limited it to 00K a second. Zero. Basically, I told the firewall to block all traffic. Now the problem has been resolved and you can carry on with your day. I apologize for the boredom this may have caused you.

Daily Bubble Has Already Crushed October Records!

It took the Daily Bubble only 15 days to beat October's traffic levels! We're already up 10% and on pace to grow well over 100%. Thanks for the support.

Daily Bubble Slogan - Give Us Your Thoughts!

I've gone through about five Daily Bubble slogans since it was first launched, and I have yet to settle on one that I like. Or... should we nix the slogan all together? Now I'm going to do what I should have done from the beginning: turn to our ultra-creative readership for advice. Maybe if I knew what the point of this blog was this task would be easier. I have a six pack or bottle of good wine to whoever comes up with the best idea.
