FAKE: "May He Who Is Without Sin Cast the First Stone"

Do you know the biblical story of the woman caught in the act of prostitution? Jesus is asked whether the Old Testament law applies and she should be stoned or the New Law applies and she should receive mercy. Jesus quips, "May he who is not guilty cast the first stone." That would be a great biblical story - if it was originally part of the bible.

Remember the story of Jesus healing a leper out of compassion? Also not true. In the earliest versions of the bible, Jesus reached out in anger. Scribes changed it because they found the angry wording problematic.

UPDATE: By way of Andrew Sullivan, here is a critique of Bart Ehrman's work. It argues many of the finer points but neglects the main issue: people copied the bible by hand and made their own editorial decisions. This makes it impossible to look at the bible as the literal word of God - unless paraphrasing is good enough.
